Introducing...Rosie!!!

Well, it's been almost 2 years since Chester died and we (I, really) felt ready for another beast. I'd been stalking rescue sites for a few months and yesterday we went to a St. Bernard rescue outside of town and found Rosie. This is what we know about her: she was one of two Bernards who were housed outdoors. They had a habit of escaping and, when the owner tired of the "hassle", she turned both dogs over to the rescue (the exhaustion is a bit of a mystery because apparently no attempts were made to secure the fencing or make other attempts to create an environment that did not make escape so appealing). Rosie's mate was adopted out quickly but she was not. The rescue folks think that it's because she's small for a Bernard, weighing in at a mere 100 lbs. She has lived at the rescue in an outside pen for the past 2 years. She recently developed some weird skin thing that the rescue's vet said was an allergy - probably to some kind of bug bite. I'm seeing our vet tomorrow morning to see what he thinks. Anyhoo, as a result, her back half is shaved. The skin underneath looks pretty yucky but I think it's partly the medical condition and partly because she's a dirty mess. My Spidey Senses think it could be food related.
She's not been with us for 24hrs yet but has proven herself to be a calm, well-mannered dog. She craves attention (who wouldn't?) and is still trying to figure out what has happened to her. I figure it'll take a few weeks to see how we all adjust but so far, so good. I'll keep you posted! We're off to the dog store and then Rosie's in for a nice walk followed by some serious grooming.

Too bad Mike doesn't like Rosie...
